Marika Cotter is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker who is currently fundraising for a feature-length film adaptation of Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet meets Richard Curtis’ Love Actually in Cotter’s bold, feature-length adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most popular romantic comedies. LOVE: As You Like It takes viewers on a wild ride through San Francisco’s hip, artsy and culturally diverse Mission District as a dynamic group of characters struggle with what it means to love, and to be loved.
The story follows free-spirited Rosalind, who falls for the wrong boy, and her beautiful, lovelorn cousin, Celia, as they run away from Celia’s father and move to the city to experience life at its fullest. Disguised as hipsters, and joined by their rich, video-game junkie cousin, Touchstone, they meet a compelling cast of characters who are all grappling with this idea of Love – what it means to love, to be loved, to overcome fear in order to love; love for ideology, love for God and religion, love for oneself, for one’s partner, friends and family.
