Brush up your monologues, oh ye with classical tongues. It’s the time of year Shakespeare companies send out the call for actors. Here are several you might want to check out.
Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival are holding joint auditions at ACT in San Francisco on January 30. The Lake Tahoe Festival is casting all roles in The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Idaho Shakes is looking for specific roles in Romeo & Juliet, The Imaginary Invalid, The Winter’s Tale, and Noises Off. Marin Shakespeare Festival in San Rafael is holding general auditions for its 2012 season on February 10, 11, and 12. The season includes King John, directed by Lesley Schisgall Currier, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Robert Currier, and The Liar, directed by Robert Currier. Shakespeare Santa Cruz is holding auditions for its summer season. Upcoming dates in Los Angeles are February 12, 13, 15 & 16, and in Santa Cruz on March 3 – 4. The season consists of Twelfth Night, the world premiere of The Man In the Iron Mask by Scott Wentworth, based on the works of Alexandre Dumas, and Henry IV, Part Two. Auditions for Theatricum Botanicum’s repertory season in Topanga Canyon will be held in March. Equity auditions are March 16 from 10-5 (rain date is March 23), non-equity auditions are March 17 from 9-3 (rain date is March 24), and intern/college auditions are March 18 beginning at 10 (rain date is March 25. The season will include Measure For Measure and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Prepare a 2-3 minute Shakespeare monologue. You may or may not be asked to sing at the audition. The Redlands Shakespeare Festival has announced auditions for Much Ado About Nothing, Richard III, and an “adventurous pirate concept production” of Two Gentlemen of Verona. Auditions are scheduled for February 18 and 19, at Joslyn Senior Center, 21 Grant St., Redlands, CA 92373, 1-5 pm both days. Auditions consist of cold readings of scenes from the three plays.
