Audition Update: Los Angeles & San Diego

Vanguard Repertory Company/La Canada Flintridge Shakespeare Festival is holding AEA auditions for a three person adaptation of Romeo & Juliet and a new adaptation of Twelfth Night on March 16, 10am – 5pm at Madilyn Clark Studios, 10852 Burbank Blvd. in North Hollywood. The season runs June 29 to August 5 and performances will take place Thurs-Sun nights. Matthew Burgos will direct Romeo & Juliet, and Burgos and Sam Ross will direct Twelfth Night. Prepare a 2-minute Shakeapeare monologue. www.vanguardrep.com

Independent Shakespeare Co. will hold AEA auditions for its summer season on March 13 and 14 at their ISC Studio location, 3191 Casitas Avenue, Suite 168, Los Angeles 90039. Auditions are 10am – 3pm both days. The season consists of A Winter’s Tale (all roles open except Leontes, Hermione and Perdita), directed by Sanford Robbins; A Midsummer Night’s Dream (casting for Flute only), directed by Melissa Chalsma; and The Comedy of Errors (all roles open except Adriana and Luciana), directed by Melissa Chalsma. Prepare one short monologue from a play by Shakespeare or one of his contemporaries. Performances will be outdoors on a purpose built stage on the grounds of the Old Zoo in Griffith Park, Thurs – Sunday at 7pm. www.independentshakespeare.com

Audition update for Theatricum Botanicum’s repertory season in Topanga Canyon. Equity auditions are March 16 from 9-4 (rain date is March 23), non-equity auditions are March 17 from 9-3 (rain date is March 24), and intern/college auditions are March 18 from 9-3 (rain date is March 25). The season will include Measure For Measure and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Directors are Melora Marshall and Susan Angelo. Prepare a 2-3 minute Shakespeare monologue. And for those of you in San Diego, Intrepid Shakespeare Company is accepting submissions for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the musical. Prepare a one-minute comedic Shakespearean monologue and 24 bars of a rock/soul/pop song from the sixties, e.g. Sam Cooke, The Turtles, Etta James, The Clovers. Rehearsals begin July 14 and the production runs from August 23-September 30. Actors will be paid a stipend.  Midsummer is directed by Colleen Kollar Smith and Christy Yael.
