Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles will remount its 2001 L.A. Times Critic’s Choice production of Romeo & Juliet on two Saturdays, April 14 and 21 at 8pm. Set in Downtown Los Angeles circa the Rodney King verdict riots, this version of the play will take you back to the not-so-distant past for the greatest love story – and cautionary tale – that ever was. SCLA’s artistic director Chris Anthony will direct a cast that features Francisco Garcia as Romeo and Xochitl Romero as Juliet, along with Cesar Cipriano (Tybalt), Joshua Wolf Coleman (Lord Capulet), BJ Dodge (Nurse), Nic Few (Mercutio, Prince, Paris), Ed Ramolete (Friar Lawrence), Barbara Roberts (Montague, Apothecary), and Caro Zeller (Benvolia, Lady Capulet).
The performances will take place at The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles, 1238 West 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90026. General admission tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased now at this link. The Shakespeare Center’s production is part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with Arts Midwest.
