Dennis Krausnick, Shakespeare & Company’s Director of Training will be in Los Angeles to teach a Shakespeare Weekend Intensive May 24 – 26, 2013. The Intensive is a chance for actors to encounter Shakespeare & Company’s training for the first time in a 20-hour program designed to fit into busy schedules. Friday evening is an introduction to S&C’s methods and aesthetic, and a discussion of the course the weekend will follow. During the day Saturday and Sunday morning, participants will integrate Linklater voice work, movement exercises, and explore the actor’s personal connection to Shakespeare’s text. Sunday afternoon is given over to working with First Folio and the Structure of the Verse.
The workshop is also a great way for alumni to reconnect with the work. Actors can often get over their heads with day-to-day business without even noticing it, and a weekend devoted to text, movement, and breath can be rejuvenating and energizing. Krausnick agrees. “I love having alumni in Weekend Intensives. They add a valuable perspective for first-time participants, and I enjoy reconnecting with alumni as they reconnect with the work.” Weekend Intensives are limited to 12-14 participants. Discounts are available for members of Actors’ Equity, SAG/AFTRA, and other performing unions, as well as for alumni of certain Shakespeare & Company workshops.
