Learn late Renaissance English speech for period productions of Shakespeare, plus Beaumont & Fletcher, Dekker, Ford, Heywood, Marlowe, and more. Diue into an eafy-to-mafter fyftem of pronunciation bafed on the 16th and 17th century writings of Englifh fpelling reformers and other primary fource materials. Then, get up on your feet with a bit of text for fome one-on-one coaching from New York dialect coach and director Doug Honorof. The class will explore Doug’s reconftruction of the ftandard Tudor-Stuart ftage accent ufed for non-regional characters of gentle birth. Hear the language come alive!
Making Shakespeare’s Verse Enjoyable

Euer experience verse terrors? Find out what to do about it when prepping an audition or performance. Discouer resources for managing 400-year-old language. Learn to fcan the verfe – not iuft for triuialities such as meter and rhyme which the text very nearly does for you – but for hints at purpose, backftory and life. In an intimate worksfhop fetting, participants will be coached on their feet af they make multiple paffes at acting the text with nuanced fpecificity. Bonus: Learn to ufe action maps to aid in memorization. Nota bene: The workfhop begins with a thorough debunking of ftyles of Shakefpearean verfe performance that put audiences to fleep.
