A Noise Within

Three Pasadena residents and one Glendale resident are joining the Board of Directors of A Noise Within (ANW), Los Angeles’ critically acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, announces ANW Board President Terry Kay. “We are proud to welcome community leaders Wendy West Brenninkmeijer (Pasadena), Rebecca Bowne (Pasadena), Kathy Drummy (Glendale) and Lynda Jenner Whaley (Pasadena) to the A Noise Within Board,” he says.

“Each of these exceptional women brings a passion for theater, an interest in education and a depth of life experience that will help enhance and further the mission of A Noise Within,” said ANW Producing Artistic Director Julia Rodriguez-Elliott

BOWNE, a former hospital administrator and health care lobbyist and an ANW subscriber and supporter since 2002, has served as a community volunteer of long-standing with such organizations as LA Opera and Long Beach Opera. Founder of the Opera Boutique, she served as President of Opera League of Los Angeles; vice president and secretary of Metropolitan Associates; various board positions with the Metropolitan Auditions Los Angeles District; treasurer for the Pasadena Symphony Women’s Committee and chair of Holiday Look In; and awards chair for Pasadena Opera Guild.

BRENNINKMEIJER owns and operates Healers West, providing intercultural holistic health coaching for issues related to career, relationships, cancer, chronic illness, and grief. She serves on the board of directors of The Women’s Wisdom Initiative and is the former chairman of the board of directors of Ruskin Group Theatre Company in Santa Monica, which is affiliated with the Ruskin School of Acting. She and her husband became advocates, subscribers, and contributors during ANW’s penultimate season in Glendale.

DRUMMY, a partner in the Los Angeles-based law firm Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, is an expert in the regulatory, transactional and litigation aspects of health care law and was named one of the “Best Lawyers in America” in Health Care Law by Best Lawyers, one of “Southern California Super Lawyers” by Reuters, and one of “America’s Leading Lawyers for Business” in Healthcare (California) by Chambers USA. The civic-minded attorney currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Los Angeles Master Chorale and the Board of Governors of the Ojai Music Festival, for which she also previous served on the Board of Directors. She and her husband Jim have been actively involved with ANW as patrons and supporters since 1998 and INsiders literary club members since 2005.

WHALEY, a former Peabody and Emmy Award-winning television producer and professional singer, serves as Director of Community Programming for the Music Center Education Division, directing Grand Avenue Partners. She previously oversaw such projects as the BRAVO Award, the Southern California Wolf Trap Program and the Very Special Arts Festival. An ANW patron and supporter since 2009, Whaley also serves on the board of directors of the Armory Center for the Arts.

A Noise Within, led by Producing Artistic Directors Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, is the only year-round classical repertory company in Southern California and one of only a handful in the entire country dedicated solely to producing classical dramatic literature in the repertory tradition of rotating productions with a resident company of professional artists. Founded 21 years ago, the company has presented more than 140 plays from the classics of world literature, producing works from authors ranging from Shakespeare and Molière to Ibsen, O’Neill and Shaw to Miller and Williams.
