1140 Productions adapts William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet for a contemporary audience for six performances beginning July 18 at Live Arts LA. While still maintaining the Shakespearean language, this version, titled ROMEO JULIET, will contrast the classical language with a contradictory style that takes the story to a nondescript time and place, making it even more relevant and haunting than ever. The small cast, absent of all parental figures, portrays the lovers’ tale exaggerating the impulsive passion of neglected youth to create a raw, visually stunning, melancholic spin on the classic tale.

Shaya Mulcahy directs a cast that includes Rob Atchinson as Romeo and Isabella Schloss as Juliet, with Frank Gullihur (Mercutio), Richy Storrs (Benvolio), Alex Ho (Tybalt), Riley Smith (Friar Laurence/ Gregory), Adam Forrest (Paris), and AJ Helfet (Abraham). Dancers: Alena Henke, Caribay Franke, and Catherine Tapling. The production staff includes Sadie Yarrington (choreographer), Manuel Prieto (costume designer), William Sammons (lighting designer), Julia Keefe (sound designer) and Colin Simon (fight choreographer). Christina Bryan is the stage manager.
