Independent Shakespeare Co. will once again be offering classes in Lyrical Verse Speaking, Shakespearean Monologue Study and Shakespearean Scene Study. All ISC classes allow students to explore the techniques and exercises the company uses to rehearse their plays. Classes are intended for adults. Lyrical Verse Speaking
David Melville will teach a 3-hour master class for those who would like to brush up on their lyrical verse technique. Through detailed examination of several of Shakespearean speeches, you will learn the basics of verse speaking, and skills to act Shakespeare with clarity and power. This class is a prerequsite taking our Scene Study class, so that all students share the same technique and vocabulary. Dates: January 26 or March 2, 2015 (6:30 – 9:30 pm). Course fee: $75. Shakespearean Monologue Study
This 4-week course will be taught by ISC company member Joseph Culliton. Joe is an ISC festival regular and has been acting for over 45 years (10 with ISC). He has taught verse speaking at Butler University and Allentown College and has also directed Richard II and Henry IV for ISC. Students should come to their first class having selected a speech to be either read or spoken from memory.

The East West Players Actor’s Conservatory Program is offering a Beginning Shakespeare III class taught by Christian Durso, Mondays February 9 – April 6, 2015 from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. (No class January 19). This introduction to Shakespeare class is a continuation of Shakespeare II. Throw away preconceived notions of Shakespeare you have from your English class and learn the poetry, prose, and characters the way they were intended to be explored… through the theatre. This class will help you find practical ways to approach heightened text with confidence and authenticity. Course Fee is $435 (ACTS $410). Location: St. Frances Xavier Chapel, Room 8, upstairs.
Students range in age from 17 to 65, are of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds, and possess skill levels that stretch from beginning to advanced.
