Shakespeare at the Fringe: Taming of the Show Goes Caveman

Taming of the ShowLittle Candle Productions brings its world premiere of the new musical Taming of the Show by Blake Waker to this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. The 55-minute farce takes the audience through the outlandish and hysterical rehearsal process of a dysfunctional production of Shrew set in caveman times. It will run June 5 – 25 in the Sacred Fools Theatre’s Black Box.

A line has been drawn in the sand betwixt actors and crewmembers. Never the twain shall meet. And yet… Eddie Littlejeans, the assistant stage manager of a dysfunctional production of Taming of the Shrew dares to harbor a flame for the leading lady. Can love find a way backstage? In what might be considered Noises Off! meets Misery (with singing and dancing!) the show within a show goes terribly wrong, while Taming of the Show gets it just right.

The cast includes Jeff DeCrosta (Eddie), Chineze Enekwechi (Annie), Marc Forget (Montana Stanislavski), Greg Steinbrecher (Brayden), Steve Peterson (Hillary), Paula Deming (Betty), and Anthony Papastrat (Ronald Jeremy). Musical direction is by Billy Gill and the show is produced by Karissa McKinney and Lynn Downey Braswell.

As previously announced: On June 29, 2012, Little Candle Productions will make its grand debut with a one-night only performance of The Winter’s Tale at Glendale’s historic Alex Theatre. The brainchild of three theatre school friends, Little Candle seeks to draw attention to the fleeting reality and ephemeral nature of theatre. Instead of reproducing a show again and again, the company will unite actors, crew and audience in a once-in-a-lifetime, never-to-be-repeated experience.

The Winter’s Tale is a story about a jealous suspicion that tears family and friends apart and can only be resolved after the passage of many miles and many years. The cast features Cornelius Smith, Jr. (Camillo), Jim Van Over (Leontes), Betsy Roth (Hermione), Jennifer Bronstein (Paulina), Justin Michael Terry, and Ethan Rains along with Meredith Alloway, Fernando Belo, Thomas Bigley, Adam Elliott, Billy Gill, Emily Habeck, Sawyer Jordan, Sky King, Jake Kropac, Tyler Olshansky, Christina MacKinnon, Jamie Sadd, and Blake Walker.

Tickets are $20 (balcony) and $35 (mezzanine and orchestra) and can be purchased in person at the Alex Theatre Box Office, The Americana at Brand Ticket Outlet, or Glendale Community College; by phone at 818-243-ALEX (2359); or online Here. The Alex Theatre is located at 216 North Brand Boulevard, Glendale, CA 91203. Click Here for more information about Little Candle Productions.
