Jessica Kubzansky’s R II Opens at Boston Court

R II - Boston Court

Tonight is opening night of Theatre @ Boston Court’s R II, which features Shakespeare’s text conceived, adapted & directed by Jessica Kubzansky. The play runs Thursday, Friday & Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm through October 13 and presents a Richard II that is theatrical, raw, and performed with only three actors. As Richard says: “thus play I in one person many people—and none contented.” Shakespeare’s tale still resonates deeply today, posing the ultimate identity crisis. When arrogant King Richard is deposed by Bolingbroke, who has good reason to lead a rebellion and seize the crown, Richard is left bewildered as he struggles to find a new identity, and Bolingbroke is overwhelmed by how hard it is to be king. After all, who are we without our names or titles?

R II features John Sloan as Richard II, Paige Lindsey White as Henry Bolingbroke, King Henry IV, Duke of Aumerle, Queen Isabel, Lord Ross and a Groom, and Jim Ortlieb as Thomas Mowbray, John of Gaunt, Edmund of Langley, Bushy, Henry Percy, Bishop of Carlisle, and Sir Stephen Scroop. The production team includes John Zalewski (sound design), Kaitlyn Pietras (scenic and projection design), Jeremy Pivnick (lighting design), Jenny Foldenauer (costume and prop design), Kat Haan (assistant director), Emilie Beck (dramaturg), Elissa Weinzimmer (text coach), Alyssa Escalante (production stage manager), and Julia Flores (casting director).

There are two added Wednesday performances: October 2nd – All tickets $5 (no advance sales, first come first served at the door) and October 9th. For more information visit www.bostoncourt.com.
